Brook Hyde is a talented indie singer-songwriter trying to make it in San Diego, where he has a small fan following. Angry at the world, slightly depressed and creatively blocked, at first sight Brook seems to be the proverbial troubled and narcissistic artist with no regard for others. When his father and three sisters visit him to scatter their late mother’s ashes in the ocean, being with them unlocks and unleashes the underlying feelings behind his behavior, in what are not cataclysmic, but quiet and genuine emotional situations. Ultimately, I Am Not a Hipster is an honest, thoughtful film about family and its unbreakable bonds, as well as the life changes that make us who we are.
