Biography
He was born in Toyokawa, Aichi, Japan, and is best known for his films as well as his avant-garde poetry performances. He began his career as a poet in 1978 when he was only 17 years old. Afterwards, he enrolled at Hosei University, but left school in mid-course and began making 8mm films. His feature films have received several prizes at various international film festivals – Berlin, Austin, Karlovy Vary, Fant-Asia, et al.

The Land of Hope / Sion Sono

An elderly couple, their only son, the son’s wife, a young man and his lover live peacefully in a small residential area. Then, a terrifying earthquake strikes that causes a nearby nuclear station to explode. The residents learn they must evacuate, but the elderly couple owns a farm right on the evacuation line. The father wants to stay, but the son wants him to go. Meanwhile, the son’s wife Izumi learns she is pregnant...
