Main Program

Joy / Ilias Yannakakis

Hara leaves the maternity ward with a baby in her arms. She spends her days looking after her newborn. Daily scenes of affection, familiarization, devotion, but also acquaintance with the infant, to the melody of a lullaby. Everything seems cosy and warm. But the recurring news report about a baby that has been kidnapped from the maternity word brings us back to reality with a jolt. The viewer feels torn as he watches Hara go to extremes to protect her baby. Like any mother would. And when Hara ends up in police custody, locked up in a cell, face to face with her own truth – she chooses silence; just as her own mother does. The film awakens the ghosts of the past through stylized, black and white shots. Like a deafening lullaby.
