Thessaloniki Cinema Museum - Cinémathèque
This first collaboration of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Biennale aspires to showcase the ties between contemporary visual arts and cinema, and turn members of the Film Festival’s traditional audience into new Biennale enthusiasts. Bearing in mind that international contemporary art increasingly makes use of, approaches or even adopts cinematic language and structure, following or deconstructing it, this year’s screening program Art Projections will feature experimental films from the late 60s until the present and documentaries dealing with visual artists and their oeuvre. The selected films and documentaries relate to the general theme of the 4th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art (general title: “Old Intersections – Make It New”) for 2011 until 2015, which is the Mediterranean region as a field of study for modern cultural and social reality. The program’s first edition is organized in collaboration with the J.F. Costopoulos Foundation which, throughout the years, has consistently contributed to the research, production and conservation / digitization of experimental films and documentaries.
This interesting and promising initiative includes films and documentaries by a number of filmmakers, from Kostas Sfikas, Lucas Samaras, Antoinette Angelides, and Maria Klonaris - Katerina Thomadaki, to Eve Sussman and the most recent works by Stefanos Tsivopoulos, Nicolas Kozakis, and Katerina Apostolidou. The screenings will take place at the Thessaloniki Film Museum – Cinémathèque at the city’s Port.
