Chinese Eyes / Yasmin Ahmad
The film tells a story of interracial teenage love. That is, the love between Ah Loong, a peddler of pirated videos from China and Orked, a Malay schoolgirl who likes Hong Kong movies.“Sepet” is Malay for “single eyelid” but pejoratively it means “slit eyes.” It is evident from the provocative title that the film penetrates stereotypes of race and narrative to explore the complexities of a multiracial society that has institutionalized the superiority of the Malay race and Islamic religion.
|With:||Ng Choo-Seong (Ah Loong), Sharifah Amani (Orked), Harith Iskander (Abah, πατέρας της Orked/ Orked’s father), Ida Nerina (Mak, μητέρα της Orked/Orked’s mother), Tan Mei Ling (Mah, μητέρα του Ah Loong/ Ah Loong’s mother), Linus Chung (Keong)|
