One group of inhabitants from the Buenos Aires shantytown, Villa Miseria 21, have discovered that, by playing themselves and using their homes as film sets, they can find an outlet for artistic expression and gainful employment. Professional actors rub shoulders with part-timers, film directors with villero poets, foreign producers with housewives-cum-lead-actresses.Villa 21 is adapting and becoming one big film studio. "Estrellas" reflects this new social trend that has made poverty a newly fashionable subject, but also demonstrates that creativity and invention can offer ingenious means for survival.
