He was born in Tripolis (Arcadia) in October 1937 and studied at the Stavrakos Film School in Athens. He began his film career in 1957, working as assistant director at the Finos Film studios and after ten years began writing and directing the company’s films himself. His first feature, The Young Runaway, was followed by a string of landmark and commercially successful films. Abuse of Power was one of the biggest box-office hits in the history of Greek cinema. In the early seventies, he withdrew from filmmaking for a long period of time and turned to artistic pursuits such as iconography. He returned to cinema in 1985 with award-winning films that have been screened worldwide.

A gang of three criminals kidnaps young Tassoulis and demands a ransom for his release from his father businessman Markos Maras.The police try to locate them while Maras avoids the police so he can pay the ransom as soon as possible. His son suffers from a rare disease and must take his medication in the next five days at all costs.The handover of the ransom is delayed and the days pass as the police, headed by inspector Makridis, try to trap the kidnappers.
