Agora
The name comes from the ancient Greek word for the marketplace, where public debate and all sorts of interaction, including buying and selling, took place.
Agora is a boutique industry event offering many ideal networking and opportunities to the global film industry in an informal, hospitable, relaxed, but very professional atmosphere. Agora as an international meeting and trading umbrella runs in parallel with the other TIFF industry related activities: the Balkan Fund-TIFF Script Development Fund (14-16.11), the TIFF Agora -Balkan Works in Progress (16.11), the Crossroads - Co Production Forum (16-18.11), and Four Corners - Salonica Studio Student Workshops (18-22.11).
Participants and Deals
With the participation of 135 buyers among 382 top film professionals (producers, distributors, festival programmers, sales agents, institution representatives, experts) from 40 countries, and more than 2,631 screenings of 290 films, the 4th edition of Agora was a highly successful event in which 36 films from Southeastern Europe obtained distribution in 18 different world territories.
Films
Agora promotes all the films participating to the Official Festival Program. Agora also provides a showcase for completed and in progress films from the Balkans, Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean aiming to expand trading and networking between professionals from our region and the rest of the world.
Agora Works in Progress
Agora Works in Progress gives the opportunity to film professionals attending the Agora to be the first to discover selected projects from the entire Balkan region, in the stage just before completion. California Dreamin’ (endless) by Christian Nemescu (Prix Un Certain Regard - Cannes IFF 2007), Tale 52 by Alexis Alexiou (International Competition, Rotterdam IFF 2008), Charleston and Vendetta by Uros Stojanovic and Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos (Prix Un Certain Regard - Cannes IFF 2009), are some of the previously presented projects.
