Permanent Vacation / Jim Jarmusch

In Jim Jarmusch’s first feature film, which Sara Driver produced, the main character, Aloysius Parker, known to his friends as “Allie”, is a young man from a broken family – his mother is in a mental institution and his father has gone missing. Allie is unable to sleep, causing him to dream while he’s awake. After a troubling encounter with his girlfriend and a frustrating visit with his mother, Allie drifts through a strangely deserted New York City, where he meets various eccentric characters who live on the margins of life. A chance encounter with a woman in a vintage Ford Mustang gives Allie the opportunity to escape the chaos around him.
